Head HarnessHead HarnessBought my Collie a Halti and i'm still not in control, although he doesn't pull when wearing it he constantly turns in towards me bashing my knees with his head, how do i correct this before he sends me flying, thank's in advance have a lovely Sunday Carole.
Re: Head HarnessI have a halti for my springer and it's fab. The thing is though that it isn't a magic 'cure' for pulling, but it does give you the opportunity to impose new rules.
If my dog pulls on it, I just stop. Time and time again if necessary. The instinct is for them to turn towards you at first though, but that should settle, although and I must say I have gone flying a couple of times over the years when I haven't been concentrating! Helen xx
3 children, 3 grandchildren, 3 chooks, 3 fish, a shrimp that thinks its a prawn and a dappy dog. http://www.acountrygrandma.blogspot.com Re: Head HarnessThank's for the tip Helen, said no and stood still every time he bashed me he sat down and waited for the off. The gaps between each bash got longer,he's a quick learner bless him if only he had an intelligent mother Carole
Re: Head HarnessBetter to 'train' them to like it on.
Feed his dinner with it on and take it off. Play with him with it on and take it off. Put on and treat take off etc. They don't like wearing them, unless they have had them on since a puppy. But it will stop them puling you in the road and killing you !. Be a bit matronly and when the silliness starts tell him/her to 'stop that' in a firm voice. Or just turn and walk in the opposite direction for a few steps. They do get used to it, but probably never really want to wear it. http://www.busheyk9.co.uk
If you can't be a good example........ you will just have to be a horrible warning Re: Head HarnessClare has bought one for Lexi to have a little more control, especially at the vets and after the initial, 'I dont like it,' she was fine, although if I am honest I do not like them very much.....
Clare couldnt treat Lexi because of her IBD, but she did make her stop and sit when she pulled and she seemed to understand it was best to do what 'Mum' wanted. LOL Re: Head HarnessWhy don't you like them Gwenoakes? for me it's a blessing as Colin is very strong or perhaps i'm getting weaker lol I have no trouble putting it on and i can hardly feel any weight on the end of the lead, instead of having arms like an Orangutan.
I know it's early days but he sits when i stop and today has been the best he's been wearing it, so fingers crossed.Carole. Re: Head Harnesshttp://www.busheyk9.co.uk
If you can't be a good example........ you will just have to be a horrible warning Re: Head HarnessHi, Carol - my dislike is merely because of people either getting the wrong size or putting on incorrectly and I have seen soooo many dogs with the Halti running across the bottom of one eye and I really feel it must be so sore/uncomfortable/irritating for them.
