Have another HUGE {hug} from me.

I would agree with Dom, only you know the answers to the questions, but from my own experience, better a day too soon than a day too late. To be a good owner you have to know when to say, enough is enough and by what you have said you have done that. {hug}

RIP little one and run free at Rainbow Bridge, you might see Lexi there and she loves to play. {hug}

Seems to me that you did everything you could for him while he was in your care, he might not have been so lucky if he had ended up with anyone else. Best wishes.

Aww Maggie 13 is a really good age, as many Cavaliers suffer heart problems.
It gets to the time, when you love them enough to let them go.
Heart breaking that it is for us, he no longer is struggling or in pain

Heartfelt sympathy, Maggie. Never an easy decision or situation. We had to say goodbye to our adored sheltie four years since at this time of year. Loving is painful. {hug}

I really am so sorry for you and the upset that you are going through. Sadly, guilt is what lots of us feel when having to make that decision, but we wouldn't make it if we weren't sure at the time of making it.
I have had regrets about all of my dear animals. About whether I do it too soon, or should I have done it sooner. I now accept that I did the very best for them to save them from any distress that they couldn't tell me about.
I'm sure that Coco had a lovely doggy life with you Maggie. Letting him go was the kindest thing that you could do for a very much loved pet who had lived the good age of 13. {hug} {hug}
I am now a widow and live with my memories.

You did what anyone decent would have done, helping an animal have a happy life and quick death.

It may hurt like stink, but you should also be feeling pride in being brave enough to make that choice.
Hugs.

On a side note, my partner and I decided to shoot one of our hens today. She was sliding down from an unknown issue, probably bacterial. We have a policy of us looking at the situation, then deciding alone what should be done. That way nobody can say anybody talked them into anything. We consider it a large part of animal keeping and on occasion have planned ahead and had, for example, a horse shot after his last arthritic problem had cleared and before it came back to hurt him. I even took him show jumping the morning of losing him, high on painkillers, so he went out happy. It hurt me deeply, but as he'd given us years of pleasure it was the least we could do for him.

One of the geriatric cats(18 yrs old) was showing the signs of a cold on Saturday, not eating/drinking ,by Tuesday was oozing smelly gunk from her nose and mouth,took her to the vets as I thought she had something sinister, on opening her mouth she had a huge tumour there,so had her PTS straight away.Two animals gone in under a week.
