Other People's Dogs

Post by Mercedes »

This morning when I was taking Daisy out on her extremely short walk up and down our road I bumped into a neighbour who has a lovely 11yr old rescue collie x spaniel dog. He got the dog from a rescue place a couple of years ago and ever since he's had it this dog has barked at other dogs and shown aggressive behaviour. I've lost count of the amount of times I've advised him to take the dog to be socialised.

This morning however the neighbour called over to me and said his dog was now "very good with other dogs" and beckoned me over to him. I crossed over the road with Daisy and immediately this dog started barking at her so we backed off a bit but eventually the other dog stopped and actually seemed to be okay and was wagging it's tail. However about 10mins later it suddenly started barking madly again and lunged at Daisy. For once her flat face came in useful and he didn't make contact as he tried to bite her face.

I hate to think what damage he could have done if he had actually bitten her but all he seemed concerned about was that one day a big dog might attack HIS dog. I really don't understand why people take on dogs if they aren't willing to make sure they are safe to be out on the streets and I also wonder why the rescue organisation didn't make sure that this couple would ensure the dog would get some socialisation.

My little Daisy is such a gentle dog and so sociable and I know it's daft but it really upsets me when I see her get stressed out by something like this. I also feel bad for letting Daisy get so near this dog and will be avoiding it from now on :oops:

Sorry to hear about the incident with other dog and Daisy, Mercedes.

Giving the other dog a wide berth sounds like a good idea and I am glad that Daisy was not bitten. {hug}
