Lucky kitten

Post by Teasal »

We have lots of farm cats - 14 or thereabouts - have some lodgers, and they come and go, but 14 are mine! Have some kittens who are about 4 months old. Tonight, I found one of them with an empty cat food can stuck on his head. It was not stuck fast, and came off with no trouble, just that he had stuck his head in and could not get out. Goodness knows how long he had been like that, he would have died as there was no air in there and his head and neck were wet through. Don't know where he found the can as we do not leave any lying around they all go in the recycling bag.

He was very pleased when I released him, and I told him he is a very lucky kitten, who is now minus one life.

I once saw a heron with a baked bean tin on it's leg, the lid had not been taken off completely and we could not catch this bird. Since then I have always flattened tins going into the bin, hate the thought of anything getting caught up in them. Also cut to pieces those plastic thingies which go over a four pack of beer (oh, did I say beer I meant beans   ).

I was walking along our local canal towpath and saw a man gently rescuing a blackbird who was hanging upside down on a branch, with a length of what looked like cotton - could have been fishermans twine - tangled round its leg. Fortunately, the man managed to do it. You see so much rubbish dumped, and people do not care that wildlife may become caught in it. Those plastic things from beer packs are a danger too.
