Aww guinea pigs are soooooo cute. I love the wee noises they make I could listen to them for hours. Just don't book a holiday to Peru any time soon. My parents brought back pics of loads of guines pigs from their hols - I thought they were pets - they were being kept in people's gardens as a source of fresh meat!! now I come to think of it, maybe not a million miles away from keeping chickens...

Babycakes post has reminded me of a holiday in France a few years ago, I thought what a lot of soft people there are keeping rabbits in their gardens, until Chris mentioned they are kept for meat. :?

They are sweet, i keep meaning to post some pics of mine.

I am quite new to guinnea's only had them since may/june ish what should i do re the winter??

I have read they should be brought indoors and other people or books say they will be fine outdoors??

I cover them over every night and am consantly topping up the hay in their 'bedroom'

Don't want to wake up to frozen pigs - what do you do?

sorry )ot:

Hi lou! the piggies will be fine outside so long as you cover the hutch over to keep the wind out. A word of warning... I lost a piggy

to hyperthermia..he ate the hay in his bedroom overnight  .
After that , I put a great big wodge of barley straw in the bed, they dont really eat it and it keeps them warm. Also , barley straw is quite soft. (f+

Thanks seahorse. Yes i do keep checking the hay in the bed, last night before i covered them over they had eated all of it!! so it seems every eve i am topping up their hay.
I have got them a little hay rack and put hay in that too but they seem to prefer to eat their bed
I will give that barley straw see if it helps.
Thanks xx
