far-sighted - but I still didn't see it coming.....

Post by ChooksAway! »

Had routine eye test today. Optician upgraded my specs, and told me that I'm now "reaching that age", and in a year or so I will need an additional prescription for reading glasses/bifocals. :shock:

I'm 39!!!! Wasn't expecting this for another 10 years (though have had very sore eyes lately when reading/using computer so reluctantly accepting that the rot is setting in!).

So out of interest, for those of you already so afflicted, how old were you when your arms finally became too short?

My arms have always been too short thanks to my Mum and Gran, who were also afflicted! I always have to turn the cuffs over of my jumpers, and feel about 3 yrs old in a coat! I just need the mittens on elastisc through the sleeves to complete the picture.

I have also had to sucumb to reading glasses at the age of 44. I usually forget them at work, but we have a departmental pair to aid the threading of needles and reading of small print as we are all afflicted {rofwl}

Like you my arms finally became too short this year (I am 45), I had spent the last few months moaning about manufacturers making the writing on their packets smaller and smaller and handing things to my daughters to read for me!
Finally admitted defeat when I was finding it harder to hand quilt in the evenings, making quilts is my passion and my relaxation and if I don't get my sewing fix I get twitchy!

It was in my early forties that I had to have reading glasses. But it seems to be getting worse more quickly (I'm only 47 now), last year's glasses are now no good and I'm using a magnifying glass as well {cry}

I can't remember when, I've been wearing prescription specs for 10 years and cheap ready-readers for some years before that. So about 50.
But I can remember the feeling of outrage at turning into a dodery old lady 'wheres me specs'.

Guess what Bluebell - I have a dodgy disc in my neck, it's a condition which is apparently typical of people in their fifties. Well, actually, men in their fifties! Starting to think there were maybe a lot of mistakes on my birth certificate!!????

Oh yeah and my hips are starting to hurt too.. :?

Sunny B, good idea, I think I'll buy a very distinguished-looking magnifying glass when the time arrives - probably save a fortune that way too!

Quote of the day from my daughter, peering solemnly at me:

"Mummy, what are double chins actually for??"

Yes, I think that south-wards shift is well underway too.
