Chickenpox, allergy or Mozzy bites?

Post by Mad Chick »

I can't work out if I've got chickenpox or not. Work thought it was and sent me home yesterday. I have had it before so it seems unlikely and I don't feel at all ill - adults are supposed to feel really rough with chickenpox.

My friend (who's a practice nurse) thinks its an allergy but I can't think of anything I've used that's different.
I can't help thinking they are mozzy bites, although there are 63 of them (how sad, we counted!) all across the small of my back from hip to hip  They are incredibly itchy and are driving me MAD!

My main concern is for my best friend. She's just about to have her second cycle of chemo and I'm supposed to be staying with her next week to look after her. I can't risk her getting anything if it's something contagious.

Can a doctor tell definitely if it's chickenpox or do they just hazard a guess based on circumstances? confused>

It may not be the same but I had something similar, they were incredibly itchy and it turned out to be an allergy, what to I am still not sure, but it COULD have been some rivets I had on some jeans, I still cannot wear jeans with a metal button and I also cannot wear them because my bum looks big in them :-D

I took antihistemine syrup :-D

Could you post a close up pic of the 'rash'? It may help to work out what it could be.......... Liv had scarlett fever early this year, and it really helped to have a pic to compare to other rashes i googled...... Just a thought , it may help......

Hope its better soon {hug}

are they in a defined line? from spine to hip. could be shingles.
any other symtoms or just the rash?
I hope it clears up soon, but with regard to your friend i would stay clear until you have a definative diagnosis x

When I said 'small of my back' it's more like 'top of my bum'. not sure the world is ready for those kinds of pics yet yike*

I'm fairly convinced it's not chickenpox as I have no symptoms other than spots and after more than 36 hours they haven't blistered. So it's probably an allergy or a monster mosquito from hell
I think I'll see what they're like on Monday. If they are still there, I'll nip up to the docs and have a word.

By not showing us photos you are halving the amount of advice you will receive.
It is a well known scientific fact that women are better communicators, they get more practice, so a written description will work for them.
Men on the other hand respond better to visual stimuli so without photos we cannot offer our sage advice on this terrible medical condition.
We are even willing to give up our hard earned Day of Rest to help you out.
