not taking that again!

Post by Dinchy »

Went to the docs yesterday morning cos I have lower back pain which isnt improving. He agreed I was doing all the right things and gave me some codeine for the pain. OMG I am NEVER taking codeine again! I had a big bad reaction to it and ended up being whisked off to hospital in an ambulance. It caused my bile duct to go into spasm and it was so painful, I have never known pain like it. After a few hours observation, anti-inflamitory injections and lots of gas and air I was allowed to come home, so I am having a take it easy day today.

Make sure that your family and friends know you are allergic to it as you don't want that to happen again.

Never heard of that reaction before. Hope your better soon.
I take codeine phosphate from time to time, can't even remember that one on the adverse reactions bit.
Tramadol is a man made substitute iirc that may not give the same reaction - check it out if you need more pain relief.

Poor you, how scary!

I had painkillers that made me feel like I was having a heart attack - mother-in-law is a nurse and said it was quite common and to throw them in the bin!

I have a bad reaction to codeine, and I just avoid it now. However last time I was in hospital for a minor op I had a wristband on to draw attention to my not having codeine but in the middle of the night when I woke in pain a dr was called to prescribe pain killers and yep they gave me something with codeine in }hairout{ I was sick and spaced out for the rest of the night and didn't find out why I was so ill till the next day when another dr read my notes yike*
