I think styes hit when you are a bit run down. How about some zinc and high dose vitamin C to boost your immune system? May help stop them recurring.
Hope it goes away soon.

Thank you. I rubbed it with my wedding ring, I rested a cup of rather hot coffee on it last night (don't ask!) and have been bathing it in hot water regularly (which I have to do routinely anyway). It is still there but doesn't hurt quite so much today.
