Inner Ear Problems?

Post by stace »

Thought i would start my own thread, didn't want to take up room in Lorna's.

Anyway, i have suffered vertigo and dizzy spells for about 12 years now. I always cope really well, and start taking my meds for it (Sturgeron) 15mg. But this time they are not touching it. I also have a bad neck (Spondylosis) so i never really know whats causing it. My neck gets very stiff and creaky when my ears play up, so all in all its a vicious circle. I went to the Dr friday, she seems to think its a viral infection left from the cold i had, but i told her this has been going on months. Its not a bad dizzy spell (like spinning) its just certain ways i move, perhaps bending or reaching up that i get this weird vibration, only last a few seconds, then goes and i might not get it anymore that day. Dr also thinks it could be my neck as she says the reaching movement could be trapping a nerve. I had to give up work due to this, and to be honest it has got me down these past weeks. I sometimes think " it would be lovely to wake up feeling normal for once" Is that possible? {rofwl}

Ok my rant is over, i feel better just jotting it down {hug&kiss}
I am also of the age of the dreaded M, and she says you get lots of strange feelings when hormones are all over the place. Do You?
Thankyou for reading
Bev xx

Yes it's awful {hug} labrythitis is another thing she mentioned, my mum suffered for years with it. I must say these symtoms seem to be leading to that. I just hope whatever it is improves so that i can get my life back )t'

Another thing that can make you dizzy, is low blood pressure, isnt it? Have they checked your blood pressure, Bev? We have a history of in in our family. I dont get symptoms but it was very useful when I had surgery.
`White noise` in your ears and dizziness is awful. You have my greatest sympathy. Hope you feel better soon Bev. {hug}

Shall I really cheer you up ? Menopause very up and down so glad I am past it though I still throw the duvet off in the middle of the night because of overheating (the cat hates this as she usually lands on the floor) , having the bed to myself is probably the only reason I cope with Alex working nights. My doctor is not bad but when it comes to anything nearing an ache or pain is straight to the physio. Dont know how it works where you are be we are all self referral now so you end up waiting b...... ages. Last year after 6 months of discomfort I saw the physio who was a lovely girl but I am not confident of her treating me when the diagnosis is hers alone based on how I can best describe symptoms. I would have preferred an x ray at some stage. I had trouble raising my right arm or holding anything with weight unless I kept my elbow firmly against my side and only lifted from there. She gave me exercises which helped to a degree but 6 months later it is recurring.My neck aches a lot and I suffer lots of headaches because of it , I have sireny noises in my lugs that I take to be tinnitus and like you a bit of disorientation
sometimes when I stop the car I think its still moving for a couple of secs - very weird feeling . I dont think the medics really know what to do with us creaky ones , though one of mums expressions is 'creaking gates last the longest' and she should know ! Hope you feel a bit fitter soon , the suns on its way and that can usually help x
It will be alright in the end , if its not alright, it isn't the end .

Thanks Guys

I take tablets for blood pressure Lorna, and that seems to be ok at the moment. Annie i too have the tinnitus in my right ear, hissing all the time. The pain in the neck is constant (Its not Mr Stace btw) Mine can go accross both shoulders, into my upper chest, and gives me at its worse Nurelga in my face, its not nice at all {cry} Lets hope we all feel better with the sunshine on it's way, hope that your arm gets better too soon. I can cope with everything except the weird giddy turns, thats what i hate the most

Oh Bev, you poor lamb {cry}

Did your GP offer to make referrals for you? I'm thinking maybe you should get an ENT specialist to look at you for your ears/dizzy spells and also possibly an orthopaedic opinion for your neck as well.

If it is labrynthitis that's truly rotten, I really feel for you.

I also have neck trouble and that's awful too - find a heat pillow that I warm in the microwave helps.

Sending lots of gentle big {hug}

Morning Bev

I have had all the x-rays done on my neck, that's how they found out what it was. Not been to ENT though, but they do think its the neck that's causing the weird feeling. I will see how it goes on this week, and if no better will go back to the Dr. I must say the more stressed i get about it, the worse my neck feels. I have a bean bag i microwave with lavender in, it really does help {hug&kiss}

So sorry you're feeling rough Bev {hug} ..I can really sympathise with the giddiness from neck problems...I started off with problems after breaking my lower back 14 yrs ago.. I do count myself lucky that I can walk after spending a long time in hospital .. the pins and needles I get in my legs and lower back pain I bear as I know how close I came to being paralyzed for life .. but the weird sensations that comes from weakness around the neck are horrible .. the Dr dismisses it as 'just a trapped nerve' so rightly or wrongly I put up with it ...I also have one of those lavender Hot Paks they are great aren't they.. )t'
Hope you feel better soon, if not get yourself back to the Docs .. {hug} {hug}

Thanks Jannie {hug&kiss} I don't think sitting at the PC does much help for it really :oops: And i do tend to lean over, my posture is very bad. I try to stay away for at least 6 hours during the daytime. I cope with the pain, just not the weird head sensations it gives me. I love to bake, but as i have to hold the mixer in my hand, by the end of it i do suffer. Its so frustrating at times }hairout{ Lets hope we both feel a little better soon, i know just how you feel {hug}

Another tip the physio gave me with regards to using the laptop was to use a couple of pillows or cushions on you lap and and put the laptop on the pillows, you soon get used to using a wobbly laptop - though your spelling will go downhill ! It has helped me a bit with my neck as it means I am looking at the screen at a betterangle for my neck. Please dont try this at home if you use a big grown up computer as you may disappear under the pile.
It will be alright in the end , if its not alright, it isn't the end .

I really do try and not use the laptop. It makes me far worse. I have a desktop in the dining room which has a large monitor, but i do tend to hunch over to type :oops: It feels tonight like i have to knots in the back of my head }hairout{ I am going to have a read of my new book Jilly Cooper. I ordered 2 from Amazon Score... And Wicked, not sure what one i have to read first, as her latest comes out in paperback at the end of this month. It might relax me a little ~eep~

Have you thought about getting a Kindle ? I dismissed the idea until my niece visited last week and she was saying how light it was to hold and that being able to adjust the size of the print was a big help too. I dont seem to read so much now either as that also starts my neck off.
Its so difficult at times living with this type of ailment , its too easily dismissed as a sign of getting older and wear and tear. Probably is but if we didnt work hard then maybe we wouldnt wear out so quickly ! How about us coming back as ladies of leisure next time ?

Bev (and everyone else suffering), hope you feel much better soon. Only have vertigo intermittently, but I know what a horrible sensation it is, so I really sympathise. {hug}
