Slippery yoga mat

I bought a yoga mat, but now I've tried to use it I find I slip around on it (it said non slip on the packet )

It's gone past the time to take it back, anyway I've lost the receipt, thrown the packaging away and the shop is too far away.

Any ideas how to make it more grippy? I've no idea what it's made from - some sort of foamy stuff, I think.

Try putting it through a wash, with NO fabric conditioner - I believe I heard somewhere that helps
