Steve {hug}

I was on quite a few tablets, but I was getting heart burn (really really painful) so have had a carry on getting it changed and finding something that works. I'm on celecoxib now, have been for about 5 days, reading through the leaflet with it has really put me off it though so I'm going to have a chat with my consultant in just over a week.
I used to get steroid injections when I was 11-15 but was told the more I had them the effects wouldn't be as great, so when I had them when I was 15 they didn't make a difference :(

I hope things improve for you Steve {hug}

The next step for me is intravenous steroids, As the intramuscular injections are now only lasting six weeks. The intravenous will would involve a morning in the hospital, after that it's anti tnf dr-ugs, which is 'the good stuff' frightfully expensive (around £300 a week! ) But they work fantastically, hopefully I'll get back to feeling 'normal' after so many years of pain, actually being in pain feels normal, if something doesn't hurt I think it's dropped off ! {rofwl}

I was 33 when I was first diagnosed, now 39, I really feel for you at such a young age.

When I go to see the specialist, usually every two months, I'm the youngest one there )scare(

I also take calcium tablets, as the steroids will otherwise cause osteoarthritis, and omaprosol, as the steroids also damage the stomach linings, and cause glaucoma, kidney and liver problems, the list goes on, so I can't keep taking this amount of steroids for much longer.

Thats my moan over for today :b(

Sorry to hear you suffer from RA Steve, it's a nasty thing to have. It's good the steroids are working well though im sure there must still be times when you're having to cope with awful pain. {hug}

Lisa - try not to worry too much about the info, celecoxib is a really great drug for your kind of pain and doesn't have the same heartburn side effects as most other anti inflammatory painkillers do. {hug}

I know what you mean about the pain being "normal" Steve. I used to limp all the time, and went through a few months where both my hips were equally as painful and I got so used to it that I actually started walking more normally, strange isn't it :? It's crazy to think I don't remember what it's like to not have an ache somewhere, or feel completely knackered 24/7.
It's a shame that with something that makes you feel better there's always a side effect :?

Thanks Ellie {hug} The leaflet is a bit )scare( .
So many "common" (10 in 100) side effects like heart attacks etc. and it gave the impression that it shouldn't be taken long term, I think I just need to have a chat with my doctor or consultant just to put my mind at ease a bit {hug}

To Steve and Lisa, sending you a hug. {hug} You are both so brave as arthritis is not good, and it must be horrible to be in pain all the time. take care.

I've been lurking on this thread for a while, sorry.

I am loath to get into a weight loss thread usually as I too have health issues that complicate matters. But Steve and Lisa's posts have made me feel a bit more like sharing.

I have anaemia and chronic fatigue (used to be called yuppy flu) and am regularly knocked off my feet by sheer exhaustion. Don't feel too sorry, I don't have it very badly, I do work full time as a college lecturer. In my 20s I had to sleep 24/7 for 2 years, how DH stayed I do not know!

But since the anaemia hit 10 years ago I have gained weight, had to stop being an aerobics instructor (which in hind sight made the anaemia worse) and am a miserable fat lump these days. Exercise knocks me off my feet and dieting drains me!

BUT I have lost a stone over the last 6 months - accident more than design! Now the days are getting longer I am feeling like another concerted attack on my eating and moving habits. So if it is OK with you lot....

Hi, I am Stef and I need to get a wriggle on - all help, shouting and bum kicking gratefully received :-D

Thanks Mrs Boodles {hug} but I'm not brave, I whine and get angry with it all, but in the end it's something I've got and something I have to deal with {hug}

Hi Stef :-D
I have chronic fatigue too. I sometimes think my arthritis wouldn't feel half as bad if I didn't feel like I need to curl up in a ball and sleep 24/7. But another thing is, I really don't sleep well, which is strange, I'm lucky if I get over 6 hours sleep a night.

I know how difficult it is to start dieting, cause you feel so poo all the time and just need a big pile of sugar, but I've felt so good these passed two weeks. I don't "exercise" really, but I do try to keep as active as I can cause otherwise I'll get stiff joints and get to the stage where I don't want to do anything.

Well done for losing a stone! {hug} Just keep positive (I know it's hard).

Thanks Lisa!

Just promise me you won't let on that I am a sports science lecturer who has over the last 15 years specialised in helping others deal with obesity and other health issues. I was an overweight instructor running Baggy T classes (as well as training tough blokes for Triathlons). I really truly do know what I am supposed to be doing... I just can't summon up the energy to get on with it!
