All day in A&E

Post by albertajune »

At 3.30 yesterday morning I started an Atrial Fibrilation episode. I hadn't had one for about 3yrs, so have done well. My medication does it it brilliantly under control.
At 8am my heart was still racing and jumping about so thought I had better go to A&E. I have been there for a few hours in the past and it has gradually slowed down. Not yesterday.
At about 11.30 I was given a drug to slow it down, but no way was it going t, so a bed was found in the Acute Assesment clinic. At 4pm my pulse was still going at 156 instead of it's normal 57 and I was getting worried and very uncomfortable. Tight, sore chest etc. Nurse did another ECG and decided to call the doctor as my chest was feeling more tight and sore. Sod's lore! though. As he approached the bed, the heart machine that had been bleeping constantly for 2hrs stopped , my chest eased and he said. "great, your pulse has gone back to 70.
I managed to leave there at 7.30pm, luckily. I was going to have an echocardiogram on Monday which would have meant me staying in today as well, but the main man decided that I didn't need it as in their eyes the episode wasn't very long, so no blood clots would have formed in the heart.
I can't praise the North Hampshire Hospital enough. While there, I had 3 blood tests, an Xray, an injection in my stomach to thin my blood and numerous heart tests. On top of that the doctor was a lovely guy who enjoyed a joke and the nurses excellent.
I'm just relieved to be home and back DTL. :-D
By the way OH was very caring. When he thought that I might have to stay in, he said to the nurse, "Can I take her home to cook my dinner and bring her back tonight?" {rofwl}
I am now a widow and live with my memories.

June that must have been unnerving even though its something you have experienced before.
How good to hear some praise for a hospital and staff, though I suspect you are a good patient and that helps them to do their work and perhaps have a smile or two.
Glad you came home quickly, if only to sort out Roy - did he think home fried fish and chips would be healthier than those from the chip shop?
Take care and hope tomorrows test are over and done with sharpish. {hug}
It will be alright in the end , if its not alright, it isn't the end .
