Im sure my gp is playing me for a fool!

Post by boosmummy »

Ive been deaf in my right ear for bout 4 weeks now, its driving me mad! I went to the gp a week and a half a go and he said there was an infection in it and put me on 10 days of strong antibiotics and told me to go back, which i did today. I still have the deaf ear in fact its gone worse. So i go to see him today the same guy he looks in my ear again and says maybe its an air pocket?! I said well you said it was an infection and he says 'well if there was an infection there it'll have cleared up by now'!!

Are you kidding me??!! if there was so was there not? 'well im, not entirely sure' so now it could be an air pocket or wax. i have to put olive oil in 4 times a day (ill add at this point he told me to stop doing that 10 days ago) and ive now got a nasal steroid spray to use as well. If these two things dont work after 2 weeks i have to go back again. He says 'your other ear isnt looking too good either its a bit dull, so if you have to come back we'll get the tuning forks out and see what we find and maybe get you into the hearing specialist'!

Poor you. I do know how frustated you must be feeling as I am having a similar problem with synus. If it doesn't clear up soon, then you must see the specialist. Does your surgery not have the faciility to see to the ear wax. My OH has to go fairly regularly to our GP surgery, wher the nurse clears his ears.
I have been using a nasal spray for 3mths and it has done nothing. I have found out how to make up a saline wash, which seem to give more relief. The nasal spray can also have some serious side effects if taken for a long time. The youing hospital doc said that I might have to use it permantly. It should be used under medical supervision but mine is on repeat prescription which I see my GP for every 6mths. Hey ho!!
I am now a widow and live with my memories.

I know a lot of surgery's don't like syringing ears now. However surely your GP when he checked your ears initially could see if its wax or not.
I've had my ears syringed several times which gave instant relief. The last time my GP told me to put olive oil in the ears for 2 weeks. It was just as good as these expensive ear drops. Then come back and it was syringed straight away.
