Running to keep fit? I fell over today!

Post by fabindia »

Fell over today running to work this morning. Fortunately, no damage other than a grazed knee, sore hands and injured pride.

It comes with the territory, I am afraid, even top class runners take the occasional tumble, when it is icy under foot, muddy or simply misjudge a kerb. I run on average 32 miles a week, that's about 1,600 miles a year and have fallen twice in the past ten years or so. So not bad on average, 8,000 miles per fall, but then again I am getting pretty ancient now so falling over not something I want to do too often :-D

I think you may have misunderstood the concept of Fell running :-D
Hope you pride wasn't dented too much.

The only way to avoid this sort of thing is to sit still and do nothing (and then you'll get pressure sores instead). I don't know how 'ancient' you are but I know plenty of people who just fall over without even trying. Your fitness level should at least help you stay out of that category when you actually are ancient :-D

To add insult to injury, I got stung quite a few times at the weekend, including one on the grazed knee. All my fault really for not kitting up properly.

Just noticed the date on this old post.

A year and another 1,200 miles plus of running and I haven't fallen over since. But need to be careful, as you know what they say; "pride comes before a fall"!
