Sssshhhh. A miserable 60 miles.
I tell myself
a) I will do more in the better weather
b) I would be a lot nearer target if I counted all the steps I take on the dance floor, and all the pottering about miles.

Also I am trying to get the garden done but find the bending & stretching tiring.

At least my other New Years Resolution is going a bit better. I now have hearing aids - even remember to wear them sometimes!

This isn't exactly the same thing but it's pretty close....
Somebody kindly gave us an eliptical cross trainer on Freecycle recently, which we'd decided we both needed after getting in a state while out walking. We started on 3rd April doing about 5 minutes at about 85 steps a minute (100 him), and have been building up by 15 seconds a day with weekends and one full week off (hols). I hit the 10 minute mark today, which I know is rubbish, but I'm quite chuffed because it's twice as good as I was in the beginning!
It's like a cross between walking and climbing stairs, while waggling each arm forward and back in opposition, so it's a bit harder than it sounds. I can really feel the difference in my knees, glutes and under-tummy, and am enjoying the feeling of having done it and so having made the start and kept at it every day that I was supposed to do it even when I didn't fancy it.
I intend now to start with 5 mins in the evening, and then build both up to 15 so that I'm doing my 1/2 hr every day.
I've no idea how far 850 steps is in distance - I'm not sure I really care - it's just some, and so better than none. And soon, it will be some more. And that will be better.

I reached 15 mins a few days ago, so have been adding in more intense bursts where I up the pace and go for it. My blood pressure is now much lower and even in the healthy category. Just need to get the rest of me in there too!

Seriously, feeling better for it and would recommend everyone to walk or do something at their own pace. Start with however little and then add a tiny bit each time. It starts to add up very quickly.

How's everyone getting along?

Two walks in completely different weather, to try to recce a walk for U3A. The first on Thurs was drizzley, the grass was wet, and a footpath was blocked by a fence that (if climbable at all) would have held us up far too long. We abandoned it as one of us was worried about her wet feet.
The second, yesterday, scorching hot, found a different path for the first part - missed out a side loop as we were wilting.

At least my total is 103 miles (which is OK as long as no-one scrolls back to P1).
So I'll add 100 m dancing and 50 m gardening.

Well, back at the start of this thread MQ recommended Bikehike as a way to map your walks and tot up mileage. Well it has been marvellous, but now, just as I want it to plan a U3A walk it wont load google maps or find the right OS map for a postcode.

I can't see footpaths on Google maps.

Are there any others that I can plot a walk on? And is it just my computer (and the latest Windows) that bikehike doesn't work on.

Replied to your other post, now seen this. I don't put in postcodes because it doesn't work for me. I open it up with a bigger map of the whole area, then zoom in several times until I have the start place on the screen at the right scale with the footpaths marked.
