What was I buying?

Post by Mo »

I went to replace something that had been in the house when we bought it in 1973.
So I asked if they had an Imperial size ... Wondering if they would have such a thing.
Surprised to learn that they are all still Imperial. Thought everything was Metric now (except possibly pints of milk which are confusingly sold in both).

So what did I buy?

What would have been left in the house that had to be replaced with the same size? Hmmm...how about a door?

No.
I carried it to the shop to check the new one. (That narrows it down a bit)

It does have something in common with a door though. Which leads to it needing to be the right size.

Only thing in common with a door is that it has to fit into something exactly.

door frame? It's not something you can carry around to see if you can get an exact match (isn't that why a tape measure comes in handy) so the only other thing I can think of is a door hinge or a pane of glass in a door? But I'm sure both don't really need to be in imperial measurements so I'm a little stumped.

The old one got stuck and when I pulled it out the middle came out, making it utterly useless.

I've been making do with a small spice tub which is the same diameter. (So they haven't gone metric either)
