I had a single seater BSA 125cc Bantam back in the Sixties. It was built in 1948, the same year I was born!
To di-carb it, I used to put a screwdriver in the Cylinder head, scrape, turn the whole bike upside down and shake the bits out.

I paid £5 for it I think it was. Happy memories, took me Sevenoaks to Hastings and back a few times!

My next effort was a Lambretta L1. I forgot to put oil in it and it seized up. After that, I waited til I passed my Driving Test and brought a Car.

I've seen Lawrence of Arabia's Bike in the Imperial War Museum (may just be identical, forget). That's a nice machine

I never actually saw it Mallard but I would imagine so. I don't think it was green though - don't know why! I know my daughter went to a bike thing and met someone who either owned it or knew the person who did. It's a small world in those circles I think!

Oh not motorbikes, MrB lives and breathes bikes (and Derby County football but let us step away from that).

I will try to upload so pics tomorrow but currently he has a Honda Transalp (sp), he loves this bike but rarely uses it because it is too hot/cold/windy/wet or there is a d in the day. If I let him I swear he would give it a mug of cocoa and a bedtime story.
Prior to the Honda he had a Kawasaki 500 and a Royal Enfield Bullet, the Enfield was lovely.

I had to drag him past a lovely old Norton yesterday.

I've never been into bikes, mostly because on my sixteenth birthday I got run over by a car, broke my leg, and by the time I was well enough to drive anything, I was old enough to drive a car. Also, all the other young people in the orthopaedic ward at Guildford hospital were motorbike casualties, so it kinda put me off!
My brother, however was a keen motorcyclist, as were some of my mates, not all of whom survived the experience. My brothers last bike was a Velocette 500cc of some kind. It was single cylinder, or as he described it, 'one bang every lamp post'.
Other bikes I remember were Triumph Terrier (a 150cc version of the Tiger Cub), Triumph Bonneville, BSA Gold Star, Royal Enfield Super 5 (the first bike with a five-speed gearbox), a number of bikes of various makes with 250cc Villiers two-stroke twin engines. I could probably name a few more, but that's enough of the nostalgia trip for now.

When I was 16 a boyfriend had a Bonneville , he took me home after an evening out and I was scared witless so after that he used to put me on the bus and meet me the other end . Dad had a BSA Bantam he used to call it his pop pop ! Not roadbikes but I used to go to Brandon stadium every week to watch and smell the speedway , not everyones cup of tea but I loved it. Annie
