Wine corksWine corksWhen I bottled some kit wine this week, I used some plastic stoppers that I have had for ages. I had trouble getting them in, so hit them a few times each with a hammer. That did the trick nicely.
It took me almost 40 mins and a grazed knuckle to get one open today! If the next one is as tricky, I shall give up and have a G&t instead. Helen xx

Or even for those who have hammered corks into bottles. Relax, I could have been a twin.
Re: Wine corksTried that but
a) I couldn't pierce the plastic. b) the stopper goes over the glass top of the bottle so the wingy opener can't lever on anything except the cork itself, which is no good! Having grazed myself trying to lever with a knife and then a tablespoon handle, I got it about one fifth of an inch up, but completely stuck. So I went and got my radiator plier things and did it with that eventually. Helen xx

I did think about drilling a hole in the cork and shoving a straw in, but they wouldn't be long enough. Helen xx

If your having that much trouble, assuming the wine has ceased fermenting:- 1pt plastic milk bottles with the screw tops. Just a idea use empty gin bottles Or if your a real woman:- As Steve suggests No problem can withstand the power of continuous thought.
Re: Wine corksI only use bottles with corks - corks don't fit the screw top wine bottles.
Do you think screw top bottles would be ok to reuse? Perhaps I ought to ask the wine shop. Helen xx

Providing you sterilize them, I don't see why not No problem can withstand the power of continuous thought.
