Well we have done our first few caches and have to admit we are hooked. Even found a travel bug today from France. If you want to see where we have been and what we have taken and left log on to www.geocache.com and search for my name - jacaru - it will show you some of my exploits. I would recommend this to anyone who likes a bit of fresh air and a treasure hunt.

Oh, wow! There is a cache just up the road from me! We're going to try and find it tomorrow!

I think this might be a good thing to get the kids into. It would give some focus to a family day out, instead of just walking along arguing and tormenting each other

Yep, I have found it works well with kids. Took my youngest out at the weekend and he hates walking, but he really loved it, especially when we found the cache and he got to keep a Kenyan 5 cent coin.

I can't wait to get started.

Where can I get a suitable, not too expensive GPS from?

Oh, can I use a satnav?? I have a tomtom, will that work??

Don't think a SatNav would work as you need really precise co-ordinates.

We tried with sat nav - worked fine for a drive by cache, but when we were lookin for one near a reservoir, it kept sending us back to the main road!

Have you done any Geocaching yet and if so how did you get on?

I spread the word a ballet, a Mum there couldn't believe she hadn;e hear of it before. They had two finds last SUnday, using a car Sta Nav. The kids really enjoyed it. They are away visiting friends this weekend so they are going to have a another go.

sounds like a really fun thing to do this geocaching, i dont have the right equipment or i would give it a go.

If you sign up to the site then use flash earth you can enter the co-ordinates and it will show you where it is.
That's the method I'd use without needing a GPS unit.

It is possible to use it without equipment, we have had to resort to that today. You need to read the spoilers and decoded the hints.

You will have to prepare yourself for a high failure rate, but you don't have to log all your failures so no-one would ever know.
