I crochet socks (which probably doesn't help) though you can surely make knitted socks on a circle needle?

I do make them on a circular needle :-D usually I make both at once on one circular needle )t'

It is easier to do than to explain, but there is a good tutorial HERE - once you've learned how to do it, you can apply the principle to most sock patterns, and to sleeves, mittens etc

It really is easy to *do* - but it looks clever, and always attracts attention in waiting rooms! It's also possible to knit two socks one inside the other - carrying the wool from one ball in one hand, and the other in the other hand - now THAT is clever! (I know if I tried it though, I'd just end up with two socks bizarrely and uselessly joined together!)
