Fimo fun

Post by julie62 »

I'd seen some crochet hooks on ravelry made out of fimo and thought they were lovely so thought I'd have a go - they were actually really easy to make - I got some very cheap metal hooks on the internet and a few small blocks of fimo - the dots are just small dots of white fimo pressed in and rolled in to flatten - I'm really pleased with them. i haven't used fimo for years but this was fimo soft which is much easier to use than the fimo I used in the past. I've not crocheted with them yet but they look pretty anyway!!

That is really weird - I was only looking for those on the internet last week! Yours are very pretty indeed and I expect will be a pleasure to use. Well done!

They're lovely, were the actual hooks coloured, or have you painted them ?

There's no painting or varnishing - it's just the fimo soft in different colours - shaped around the handle and then small circles of white fimo rolled in at the end to make the spots. Then half an hour in the oven at about 120.
I thought they might be a bit lumpy and bumpy but they have come out better than I thought they would - I haven't used fimo for years and its def easier to work than it used to be .. it's called fimo soft now so they must make it to a different recipe and it's easier to work.

They are really pretty and I should think very useful for arthritic fingers )t' .. I find the metal ones too difficult to hold now.

What a great idea Julie. They are fab and look so proffesionally made. )t'
I must look out for the Fimo soft as I use it for dolls house bits and bobs. Mine takes a lot of kneading to make it pliable.
