Down the Lane

I've not posted anything on here for ages - probably cos I've been too busy knitting. Here's just an update with what I'm doing - still obsessed with fair isle knitting at the moment ...

This is what I'm working on at the moment - a fair isle cardigan. The wool is gorgeous.


And a scarf I'm making - it's all natural colours of Shetland wool - about halfway finished ..


This is a matching hat to go with the scarf ..




A jumper with swans round the neck in Wensleydale wool.


A Killing inspired jumper !


And a mohair sweater which looks nice but sheds more than a labrodor dog!

Fair isle has always defeated me, so I'm in awe.
I can happily produce complicated Aran all day long, even inventing my own patterns without a second thought, but put three colours together and tell me to produce a swan and I'd be a blithering idiot

I can knit, but I don't think I'd know where to start with something like that!

Thank you all - I know some people find wool itchy but it is so warm - I love it.

I never did stranded knitting until I bought a book last year called Stranded Knits by Ann Kingston and it de-mystyfied the whole process - it really is a lot easier than it looks and I always knit in the round so I hardly ever purl with two colours (and I knit two handed now when I use two colours so you dont get any tangles. The other advantage with knitting in the round is that you dont have to sew things up. It's so clever and so simple - I can thoroughly recommend it if anyone wanted to learn. It also means you can try things on as you go so you know that it will fit. I avoided it for years. Intarsia knitting I dont like (where you have a block of another colour) cos I do find that really fiddly with loads of ends hanging off the back of the knitting - too much of a faff!

Such beautiful work Julie. It is hard to pick a favourite but I love the colours of the work being done in the top picture. Such patience!!

The top one is a Rowan felted tweed and it's the nicest yarn I've ever knit with - it's so soft and the colours are beautiful - it's like an oil painting - too nice to wear!
