Why thank you.
I spent about an hour and a half on it today and have it roughed out to it's basic shape all done with my axe and bill hook. The fiddly bit comes next refining it into the finished article, carving, then sanding and oiling.
This is what it looks like now and I will post photos of it's progress

I'll add you to my customer order list )t'
It is about a foot long with the bowl about 3" across.

It is made out of hazel so is non toxic and will be coated with Tung oil which is food safe (unless you are allergic to nuts in which case there is a small chance it could kill you) :-D

Did a bit more on the spoon yesterday about two hours work.
I started by beginning to rough out the bowl with a gouge but I've only got a small one (ooo matron) so it took longer than I expected.
Image
Then I smoothed the bowl a bit and started to shape the handle, thought I'd try transitioning the shape of it and it seems to have worked.

Now just a case of refining the shape and removing the excess wood before sanding it smooth.
This is actually the second spoon I've made on the rainy days but I was playing and didn't take any photos of my progress. After I showed the girls my youngest asked if I could make her one to take to Uni so I used the other half of the log and thought I'd take photos as I went.

I finished the spoon today all bar the oiling which should give the wood a lovely honey colour.
Our youngest loves it and has ordered a matching spatular.
Our eldest has also put in an order for a matching set.

And this is my prototype that I made a few days ago which Ali has called dibs on and put in an order for a spatular as well:-D
