I remember in my youth(which will probably exclude a lot of you on here) making animals out of long white straws, I remember a swan I made I gave away as a birthday present it was so nice. I have no clue how to do it again >dum<

Were they called construct-o-straws or something? I have a vague memory, but never did them.
I thought you were going to mention pick-a-sticks, which I think some people call jack straws. Where you have to take one from the pile without moving the rest. Different colour ends meant you were allowed to get them out in different ways (roll, flick...)

I do not remember making things out of straws but I remember attempting Origami - The Japanese art of paperfolding and playing Jack Straws, thinking back we also played Jacks, where you bounced a small rubber ball and had to pick up these jacks from the ground before catching the ball after one bounce.

The simple things are always the best :-D

I have still got my jacks, do play them now and again. Simple games are still the best.

Just done a search on Amazon and found you can still buy Jacks and Jack Straws so will be placing an order for my partner to bring them back on her next trip to England, they should help pass a few hours during the cold winter months. :-D

Just been to the seaside. While looking for bits of junk to bring back for my grandchildren I got a packet of dinosaur jacks. Bouncy rubber ball, but plastic dinosaurs to pick up instead of those metal cross things.
