Oh how sweet. You've upgraded me to an idiot!

Being serious though, I'll look out for that. Thanks.

Hello Mike, I thought that after all the hard work you put into your poetry, you deserved to be upgraded from Moron to Idiot. If you keep your standards up you will soon rise to the rank of Village Idiot. This is a hard position to hold, as people will point you out and talk about you behind your back and little vicious dogs will nip at your ankles to prove they love you.

My husband watches rugby which I don't understand. Watching it the other day inspired me to job this down

Watching Rugby

My husband's watching rugby
One of the tactile sports
The players go into huddles
While wearing skin tight shorts

I think they are a breed of men
Different from the rest
They are rough and tough and agile
And play the game with zest

They also look so different
With looks not heaven sent
Their ears are puffed like cauliflowers
And all their noses bent

The rules seem complicated
And sometimes seem unfair
When all the team jump on one man
With their bottoms in the air

Althought I don't understand it
This rugged rugby game
I'll sit down next to my man
And watch it all the same

I like the rugby poem. Must admit to not being much of a sports fan myself, so perhaps that helps.

Will post another poem later in the week when I've finished this set of night shifts.

Have a look at my website :- www.fenlandwriterscircle.com ther's some good stuff on there, not all mine I hasten to add!

Hello Mike
Just managed to find your website which I have now saved in favourites, to have a good read later. Not sure if mine will be good enough to put up on a writers site. Will think about that!!

A Walk in the Woods

The weather is warm, fine and clear,
On this Saturday late in march,
The car park of the woodlands beckons me,
Walking trails within are dry and firm,
Assorted types of tree in here,
I find oak, spruce, Scots pine and larch,
Some trees have been cut to just a stump,
Is this extreme pollarding, to get new growth?
Tall and thin, growing as bunches,
Competing for and racing upwards for the light,
I come across a small stream,
Shallow, slow and within steep banks,
There are lots of large dead trees,
Fallen to the horizontal plane,
Their roots exposed and showing how,
The sub soil is stony and sandy,
Small pieces of broken flint,
In the reflected sun they glint,
Catch the eye with a grey and off blue sheen,
The sharpness of medieval tools easily seen,
Snowdrops, are no more, they have gone,
Their bulbs expanding, through the summer,
Ready to split in the autmn, for the winters show,
Already they have been replaced by small white,
Almost daisy like flowers I do not know,
And there are lots of green leaves,
That will soon throw up a single flower stem,
Of pretty bluebells, that will carpet the woods,
On the edge of the footpaths, the nettles,
With tiny flowers of bright blue petals,
They are starting to show through,
And with that nasty cats smell that they have,
They live up to their reputation and cause a rash,
No dock leaves when you need them most,
Yellow and blue walking routes on a post,
Past small, deep green watered ponds,
That will soon be home to frogs and spawn,
A new generation in natures food chain,
Dry twigs that snap and crack underfoot,
Announcing your presence in this peacefull haven,
Of solitude and silently emerging leaf buds,
That will soon make this a much darker place,
Even on a bright spring, sunny day,
As the season races towards the month of may,
And then, mentally refreshed, and comtemplative,
I walk back to the car park, through the gate,
Damm the rat race, it can wait! {warn}

Nice one Mike

On the Uni course that I’m doing, last week we had to write a love poem with using the word love.

This is mine.

YOU ARE TO ME

You are the warming pink light, in my dreary life.
You are my eighth unfinished symphony, which will never end.
You are the clotted cream on my strawberries.
You are my wife, the giver of life to my children.
You are my ice cold lemonade, on a hot summer night.
You are the soft velvet touch on my fevered brow.
You are my own Taj Mahal.
You are the serenity that calms my angered emotions.

If I had a magic box, what would it be constructed of and what would I place in it to evokes my five senses?

MY MAGIC BOX
By John A Silkstone

My magic box
No bigger than an oxo cube – yet larger than the tardis.
Constructed with vivid imagination and
Held together with joy and wonderment.

In my box you’ll find:

The ultra blue sky –
Before dawn’s early light.
Together with an orange red sunset.

The smell of freshly sawn timber,
The aroma of apple blossom
Together with newly mown grass.

Also in my box:

The hissing of a steam locomotive,
The honking of a wild goose,
And the chirping of newly hacked chicks.

The taste of freshly picked strawberries,
Mr. Whippy's ice-cream,
The lingering after effects of lipstick.

Together with:

The feel of a warm embrace,
The cuddle I gave my sickly child
And the piece of mind of a task well done.

WHAT WOULD YOU KEEP IN YOURS? :-D )t'

Attitude

What are you looking at?
Why are you staring at me?
Are you jealous of my blue hair?
Or is it my bright red boots?
Not proper standards for you I suppose?
Perhaps it’s the ring through my nose?
I wear my hat, the peak at the back,
Only the conformists wear it to the front,
Maybe it is my mirror sunglasses,
So that you can not see my eyes,
So what are you looking at?
Just why are you staring at me?

I was inspired by a modern oik I say in the Kings Road in Chelsea many years ago.

QUESTION TO GRANDMA
by John A Silkstone

”Grandma can to tell me
Why granddad’s always funny,
Laughing and Joking that -
It shakes about his tummy?

Is it his second childhood -
Or is there another reason why?
Without his silly jokes
He’s still a nice guy.”

”No my little sweetheart
I’m afraid is something worst,
For when it come to childhood
Granddad never left his first.”
