I've just seen this - there are some good people in the world and i'm glad they have this boat. I hope they are successful.

I would as well!

Mind you, ANY boat would be quite nice. Quite like the idea of rowing around the place with a fishing rod & a flask...

I'm shocked and saddened by all the negative comments on this story by anti-environmentalists. How can they support the Japanese slaughter of these gentle mammals?

Big news here - there will be an investigation - I wonder what will come out of that except a lot of words and money spent. There is worry about diplomatic fall outs and politicans begging restraint from both sidess before someone is killed.

I would really like someone to explain something to me though....these whales are supposedly slaughtered for scientific purposes...but just what are those purposes because please don't tell me it's just to disprove that scientific research is effecting whale population?.can't for the life of me see how killing members of a species is going to help the population...or is that being too simplistic?!
Why have the IWC not changed the rulings they made given that it has been evident for so long that commercial gain is being made through "scientific" research ...they were the ones that made the ruling that all meat should be used so what do the "scientists" do ...they sell the meat that isn't used in their "research" !
They have been doing this for years and it's ongoing so either there are a lot of experiments they just have to have whales used or their scientists are really cr@p and aren't very good at doing the experiments or Oh gosh here's a thought they're not doing experiments but pretending to do them so they can sell on the meat commercially that isn't used for their "science'.

I think it is dreadful that situations such as this ever have to exist given that they have occurred because of faulty laws governing whaling and even worse that nothing has been done to close the loophole that would appear to be so glaringly obvious to the rest of the world.
Here's an idea how about changing it to any whale caught in the name of research must not be used commercially in any way shape or form...let me think perhaps then much research would stop perhaps...or does that make too much sense?

Unfortunately the international community isn’t willing to do anything about large financial powers (such as Japan)when they break the laws against whaling, in fact I do suspect that they deliberately allowed the “scientific whaling” programme to be allowed under a loophole in the first place.
If we all agreed to stop buying any Japanese product until they stopped whaling then it’d stop; that won’t happen and in honesty it’d be daft to think that we could even ask for it.
I wouldn’t mind if the animal died instantly without suffering, that unfortunately isn’t the case as we all know. There are also certain religious meats that suffer a lot but that is another subject and not really suitable for this forum.

Add that to my "what a loads of jeffing boostaaards" list of people I'm not buying anything off!!!! I don't buy Chinese because of what they do to people and their practise of skinning animals whilst alive - I shall be wearing Cornish woven tights at this rate and eating only food from Liskeard!!!!! grrrr! some people are a waste of oxygen!

first i must say
all forms of whaling should be stopped(thats my veiw)
the Japanese family who live next door to my sister
also want a total ban but
we both agree why should a culture change its way
just because another race thinks its wrong (i agree with that as well)
so it is an dodgy subject

i have watched "whale wars "
and i do find it wrong that
a group of people can throw a bad smelling bottle of liquid
at the Japanese but
when they throw one back they get the hump and say how dangerous it is
and there are many other things they do
in one episode the anti whalers got on board a whaler
and then the anti whalers started a diplomatic row over the fact the whalers
had apparently "kidnapped"some of their crew
boarding a ship uninvited is an act of piracy
like i have said
i think all forms of whaling should be banned
until the whales have restocked themselves
which would take years and years

like manda has said
if they continue to whale for research then they should not be aloud to sell the meat

Totally agree, its barbaric!

Thank goodness we no longer are involved in whaling in this country.

Let us not forget the barbaric practice of shark fining, such a wasteful and cruel way to make a profit.
