Common Agricultural Policy

Post by Mo »

Compassion in World farming are asking supporters to email their MEPs.

They say
"The European Parliament is voting on 22/23 June on its report on reforming the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

Policymakers use this €55bn pot of tax-payers’ money to support Europe’s farming systems – and it is vital that CAP money does not support factory farming in the future. Where farm animals are involved, payments should only be made to farmers who use higher welfare methods.

Two amendments have been tabled which we need MEPs to support.

These call for the CAP subsidies to promote improved animal welfare and to support a move from intensive livestock production to more sustainable animal husbandry.

As the vote is this week, it would be really helpful if you could contact your MEPs and ask them to support these amendments as soon as you receive this email."
