Rats - what can they do?

Post by Annemieke »

It's difficult to find the right place for this question, but here goes, in the eco section.
I clean house for a man who isn't very clean, to say the least. He has rats and mice gallivanting in his kitchen, to give you an impression.
Just lately things have been disappearing: dishcloths, a whole tea towel vanished from the bottom step of a ladder where I put them to be washed. Without a trace.
Everyone who helps him is suspect now, but I think it's a big rat which drags them away somewhere, for instance behind the washing machine or the cooker.
He says this isn't possible: they would just take bits out, but not disappear a whole tea towel.
Can rats do this?
Thanks!

Maybe you could phone the council - not to report him, but to ask the question. Though if they were concerned and took action that couldn't be bad- better to be suspected of whistleblowing than theft. Why would you steal a tea-towel!!!

Take care of your own health, I think you should wear gloves to clean. Rats carry diseases.

My immune system is ok, thanks. However, I seem to at last have convinced my boss that no one has been stealing - at least no one human. He thought they were trying to scare him out of the house.
Just by the way, I read somewhere mice are much more unhygienic than rats. They dribble urine all the time.
But as I said, I've long since been inoculated .....

Rats have perpetually growing teeth, like rabbits, so they have to constantly nibble to keep them in check. I think if he had rats you'd find a lot of things damaged rather than just missing.
