Britains shameful ivory trade.

Post by kitla »

this is not about politics, this has obviously been going on a long time - whoever has been in power. I'm just so shocked that it's still going on here, we blame other countries for this awful trade & all the time so much is going on under our noses!
This needs lots of publicity & it needs to be stopped!

The international trade in Ivory is being upheld however like so many other things criminal gangs see a fast profit to be made and are smuggling ivory into the UK and passing it off as antique. The domestic sale of antique ivory is not illegal.

It seems most of the world - including Africa, US even China want a total ivory trade ban but UK & parts of Europe are standing in the way! I've heard antique dealers complaining about losing jobs, but elephants and rhinos being wiped out completely seems a much higher price. Prince William has taken up the cause.

I think the blame for these wonderful animals being slaughtered for their ivory lies squarely on the shoulders of the leaders of those countries where the animals live. They are responsible for law and order being upheld, they are obviously failing in their role of providing protection for endangered species. They will never stop people wanting to buy ivory while there is still poaching.
