Supermarket bans eggs from caged birdsSupermarket bans eggs from caged birdsGreat news, Sainsblogs are to stop selling eggs from caged birds.
supermarket to stop selling battery eggs Ilona
I am glad to hear this and hope it is a sign of things to come.
If the demand for free range is there, the supply will be found to match it. And if there is no demand for battery eggs, they will no longer exist - it's all about money after all, why would business people lumber themselves with a product they know there is no market for?? Sorrym, that has not really come out right, can't quite get the words out today!! Waiting to welcome Sunny Clucker to Northern Ireland!

If you can't be a good example........ you will just have to be a horrible warning Its many years since I have bought battery or barn eggs, and now the girls provide us with what we need.
But I have always been concerned with ready made food - cakes, biscuits, quiches etc, I am sure that in most cases these foods are made using battery eggs. I do try to make my own mostly but can't do it all. So it will be another huge step when ready made products will be commonly available that have been made with free range eggs
Unfortunately if money becomes very tight especially with all the current increase in redundancies and financial problems, people will move to a cheaper product regardless of how an animal is reared. Only those who are genuinely concerned will make the decision to continue or not purchase at all. Still, sounds like a good move
Yes, that IS good news. Although I wonder if there will be a huge increase in ex batt rescues? I guess there will be many unwanted hens around.
Also, I wonder what will happen about sains etc selling eggs when the new EU regs come in - because they will effectively still be caged won't they? Helen xx
3 children, 3 grandchildren, 3 chooks, 3 fish, a shrimp that thinks its a prawn and a dappy dog. http://www.acountrygrandma.blogspot.com The story in the link above says that they were going to phase out caged eggs, but have brought it forward to give an edge over Tes etc.
It also says they are not going to stock eggs from the 'enriched cages'. The Taste the Difference and Kids ranges of cakes etc. already have no cage eggs in. They are also bringing forward the total phase-out (probably only in own-brands though. M&S is totally cage free, I think they only sell own brand ??
ABOUT TIME!!!!! (sorry for shouting that, but honestly)
As for enriched cages - what can be enriching about them? http://www.freshstartforhens.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
