I am on holiday using far too much of my carbon footprint in one go I fear.

I shall participate - just got myself a wind-up light, so shall use that to read during the hour.

One thing that irritates me (I'm getting a bit old and crotchety) is that on the WWF website link given by MeanQueen it only states it is 8.30pm. Surely in the days of global audiences, you'd have thought that the WWF would have put in the time zone, so that others around the world could know when to participate in their time zone. So UK-centric, and short-sighted. OK, I feel better now that I've got that rant over with. Phewwww!

But it wouldn't be any good if it was during the day in other time zones.

Why isnt it before kids go to bed, 8.30pm seems a bit late to catch the young ones who might just take it on board?

Good point Seahorse.

At last year's Earth day I was on a pub crawl in Melbourne. I went from one candle-lit bar to another, it was great.

This year though, I use candles anyway. So I'm wondering what else I can do during this time...

I have just been talking about Earth Hour to my OH. We are going to try and get our street involved!

We thought if everyone turned their lights out etc for an hour, we could get together around our house. And instead of asking them to 'bring a bottle' we would ask them to 'bring an candle!'

I am slightly ashamed and rather embarassed that I had not heard about it before

My 4 storm lanterns are ready, as is my wind-up radio. All I need now is a bottle and a glass, and a good book, and I'm all set.

I will suggest a board Game by candle-light wearing extra socks!

The kids will probably elect to go to bed in the dark - but that's another idea entirely   )t'
