Eggs from Caged Hens - Public Awareness

Post by Richard »

Thought we'd have a positive action thread on how we can make the public have more awareness about the Battery Farm situation.

You may have seen these enlarged 'ads' I've used on the website here and there.
I had larger one's done and stuck them on the side of my car at Boot Fairs and a smaller one which I have in the window.

Image....Image

It would be nice to make a list of thing's which I could then put on a separate web page.

Work wise I'm easing up for a bit, so more time to do 'the proper job'!!

Short snappy suggestions would be great.

Many thanks
(Obviously I'd mention where they came and if you have a web site, give a link as well)

How about a page with a battery Christmas dinner on it that we could link to as an e-christmas card? Mudcat (folk site) is full of religious and sentimental ones.

Good idea Mo. I'm unsure how to go about ecarding, but will do a search later.

I was thinking maybe a page on your site with just the one picture on it for maximum impact, and a link for more info.

I was going to link this page to Mudcat (they have a nonmusic section) as I like your posters, but thought they'd be better without the discussion of tactics.

Keep up the good work.

If you have 'Word' and 'Excel', you've probably got it.

Otherwise I could try a large one on a page page which you could print off (Both would be A4 size).

I'll have a copy via email, the only problem I have is our printer is monochrome.

I will also ask people if they too will display one.

At the front door is a good placeto display one, I might even hand them out in the shopping centre - whoops, I will get arrested for incitement!!!

The odd one or two small one's did once drop out of my pocket onto the shelf stack - but strangely, the website wasn't on them!!

It was a few years back when suppliers were allowed to portray 'country type scenes' on caged hen egg boxes.
Luckily, I think it was the RSPCA and CIWF who raised the issues with Government and they were banned.

ie - Farm gate, lush green meadow, trees in summer glory and a sunlit sky !! Worded something like 'Country Fresh' and 'Green Meadows' etc.

Sorry, but it rhymes with rollocks and it annoyed me to bits.

Now most are in plain boxes ???

At least most of the boxes are labelled 'caged hens' priced £1.08 for 6
BUT the value ones (where in the world did they come from??) are not labelled and are priced £1.12 for 12.

I was looking as I saw a young couple reading the boxes and comparing prices - I would have stepped in if they had chosen the wrong ones and offered them the difference to buy 'proper eggs.

I would dispute that with the Shop Manager Anna as I'm pretty certain they have to say by law ?

I would imagine they're imported.

Yes, probably from Thailand, I hope everyone is aware that is where a lot of the chicken comes from as well especially in processed food.

Next time I go into that supermarket I will complain and tell them I am going to report them.

I gave the repair man 6 yesterday and begged him not to buy caged hen eggs, I also explained their plight.

Today the meter reader came and he bought 6 from Chris, it gets better.
