Help needed for hens in Rickmansworth

I have just this mail from my friend who is the animal warden.
This couple run a rescue and have devoted their lives to all types of animals, not it looks like they need some help.
I think it is a case, of can you rehome some. As to take them all is some kind of undertaking.
Thanks

"This is a long shot but I wondered if you know of anyone who wants some chickens? Approx 35 bantams, x breeds, silkies etc all in good nick and all egg layers. Its just that Juliette Morton has to rehome hers as her husband has just had a stroke and she has an allergy which prevents her from cleaning them out etc… she can feed them but that’s about it.

Any ideas would be gratefully received! "

Hi Wendy, I can definitely take some of these girls but I do have a friend who is in Rushden Northants who has a smallholding and he would I am sure be able to take the rest. He is down my way (Watford) on Sunday.

Can you put me in touch or them in touch with me. Thank you

I am going to see the lady tomorrow - there are hens everywhere so I have asked her to try to get them into the coops/sheds/stables - sounds like an interesting morning. Bantams tend to fly quite well!
I will repost on here if we need extra homes, there are some cockerals but my friend will take them. There are also some special hens she wants to sell but she will have to advertise those.
I gather she has been trying for a while to rehome and has been let down badly - 1 guy even offered to kill all her birds for her, hmmm.
Wish me luck, got all the crates ready!!

Thank you so much Paljoey.
They are a rather eccentric couple, what would you expect rescueing all those animals :?
You are both stars {hug} {hug}

Well, rescued 26 very lively bantams hens and cockerals. Not used to being handled at all! Fortunately the lady was sensible enough to keep them in the sheds/coops otherwise it would have been virtually impossible.
All safely tucked up tonight, tomorrow dusting for lice etc. Then most of them off to their new free-range home.
Some very sweet little black silkies (crosses?) just babies probably staying with me.
We left the lady some bigger laying hens which she said she can manage (she is allergic) but she has my number if that doesn't work out.

Paljoey, What can I say but wow! Talk about coming up trumps. Fantastic result for those chickens (and cockerals) finding new homes with either yourself or your pal.

Good luck with the lice dusting - don't envy you that job if they're not used to being handled!
