Rehoming day
Rehoming dayYesterday I had 36 little ladies temporarily in my garden until their new owners took them to start their new lives as proper hens
They ate corn and grass and drank water. Then they stretched out their wings and enjoyed the sunshine. Oooooohhhhh and they laid 13 eggs The lady at the front is mine, she was checking out the competition, I should put a speech bubble from her saying "it's going to be a bit squashed in the coup tonight" Davina
Re: Rehoming dayWell done Davina and all who support this, I think your little hen was a little anxious regarding a time of sweetcorn!
They look quite good, were they?
Re: Rehoming dayHi Perchy
Yes they did appear to be quite good. They had very very long nails though, they had a quick manicure before leaving me Which is more than I did as I had to cancel my nail appointment as it was for yesterday morning. The enriched cages (are still cages) but they are definitely a step in the right direction. Davina
Re: Rehoming dayOf course they are still cages, but glad to see they are a little better
Bet they loved the manicure

Thank you Davina and all the other volunteers. It was particularly nice at my collection point to see her daughters enjoying helping with the hens. Quand je serai vieille je vais vivre en France
Sunny Clucker, she came, she saw, she moved on! Re: Rehoming dayHey they don't look bad. I have seen some 'free range' that are worse than the battery hens.
Well done you for helping them to a lovely life. http://www.busheyk9.co.uk
If you can't be a good example........ you will just have to be a horrible warning

Re: Rehoming dayGlad it all went well Davina - they look nice healthy ladies - good to see the new battery systems - although far from perfect - seem to have made a difference to the ladies overall condition

Re: Rehoming dayI picked up my 2 yesterday, it's been handbags at Dawn ever since. One is in really great shape and quite big, the other bless her has obviously been low ranking (and she's staying bottom by the looks of it) and is pretty tiny but even she's in decent shape. They even seem to recognise pellets. And the eggs are huge, much bigger than my last 2 lots of girls. Both still have the wobbly legs though, bless them.
Thanks to all the helpers! Karen Karen
