So today another "first" for us as we dispatched and butchered our first home reared goat. All went well (thankfully), several more to do over the next few days.

We have also found a way to stop the kids feeding of their Mum's, surgical/medical tape. Cover their Mum's teats and to the kids disappointment they cannot access their milk, so simple.

We will dry them up now and fingers crossed >fi< hopefully get them bred for next year.

Good on you Trev ... did you hang it before you butchered it?

We've got a tall fridge in our garage we use to hang sheep / goats / deer for varying times obviously. Toby drilled through the top and put a hook through and siliconed it all up so we have a small chiller - my dream would be a walk in but that's lot of $$$$ so a fridge it is.

No. The goat was a buck we had grown on in case our original one failed in his job this year. We butchered him immediately after dispatch and then placed all the meat cuts into the fridge. Tomorrow we will pressure can all the meat for dog food.

We have another four goats to do, three are for us and one will be given in exchange for two lambs which we will receive in Jan/Feb next year. These will hung either in our "cold" cellar or the meat fridge which is a set up like yours for 24/48 hours before butchering.

Nice ...we've got a ram who is going to meet the same fate as your buck...I did wonder if we should move him on though as this year despite being in a different paddock he managed to produce 5 lambs (all singles) {rofwl} ...they say you should have 2 fences between them ...they're not wrong {rofwl}
