Yep, that's how chimney fires start and difficult to put out, more common when I was alot younger iirc.

Burning teak is sacrilege! Strong, straight, beautiful, needs no protection outdoors etc. Can't believe you'd suggest burning it on a forum that strongly advocates the salvage of pallet wood!!!

Gosh Stig !! .. not jealous by any chance .. {rofwl} ..Lucky Richard hey!!

It never ceases to amaze me what people give you when they know you burn wood .. I acquired a beautiful teak rocking chair for 'firewood' :? .. a bit of TLC and it now has pride of place on my veranda :-D

Anyhow, good advice given on the safety of burning the offcuts )t' ..free firewood is not very frugal if it burns the house down.

Absolutely I am, totally jealous.!

I salvaged a few bits of decking off the pier at Llandudno when repairs were underway, bits of wood that had been exposed to outdoor marine conditions for decades. They planed up easily & looked like new, & I used them to make racking for audio equipment (& then matching speaker stands). It's gorgeous wood, a fantastic colour.

I wouldn't feel bad about burning it if there is no other need/use for it.

It's lived it's useful life at the club. If it stops you using charcoal from unsustainable sources, gas or electricity then that is green.

You are recycling it and stopping it going to land fill.

Seems that any new wood burner/multi burner stove fitted now has to have a CO2 detector in the room by law?

Its not a CO2 detector, it's a CO detector- carbon monoxide.

And a vent I would expect, for combustion air.

About time tbh, any fuel burning appliance is capable of emitting Carbon Monoxide - the silent killer, even bbqs.

I guess the the Important thing is ventilation but the only way to make sure you have enough apart from calculations is to fit a detector.

What did you do with it in the end Richard?
If its proper teak (and not the sort of stuff homebase make their garden furniture out of!) it would have been very expensive new and built to last. Did you use it for any projects?

Hi,

I made some into fencing - re-built two benches - some as a kind of walkway - small bits I burnt - still got some left !
