Re: Uses for EggshellsBreak them into little pieces and scatter them over the floor in the house so that I can walk on them when I've done something to upset Ali.

Re: Uses for EggshellsAlthough you've already mentioned adding to the compost bin, another idea is to finely grind them down to small pieces or better as a powder and add to the potting compost for certain plants:
1) for tomatoes to reduce blossom end rot 2) for cabbages and other brassicas as well as spinach and other leafy greens like lettuce as a good source of calcium As for deterring slugs and snails, I'm not that convinced of the "sharp" edges theory - I've seen a snail go over the edge of a razor blade without injury because of the way the muscle in the "foot" ripples over sharp edges. The other reason it may work is because the calcium in the egg shell may have a drying effect on the slime.
Re: Uses for EggshellsVery interesting Lassie.
I've put eggshells for slugs down before, but I also put one year old soot as well> Will experiment (carefully!) and let you know. Richard New Member? Get more from the Forum and join in 'Members Chat' - you're very welcome

Re: Uses for EggshellsI think my favourite use of eggshells is to keep the wibbly wobbly bit of the egg in one place while coming out of a chicken's bottom.
