Allotment shed

Post by demonchilli »

I'm aiming for 99% recycled stuff.Only thing I may need to buy is a few extra roofing bolts.Everything else down to screws has been( and still in the process of being) scavanged or something I've had lying around waiting for a use 8)

Bar €40 for 40m of gas pipe(pollytunnel hoops)so far every last thing that I've aquired for my allotment has been scavanged/recycled.Most is from recyling websites, abandened building sites(with permission),skips, old allotments.

I found a thrown out slide for the kids the other day, just as well, they're sick of picking up stones )t'

Where's the safety fencing, the site rules notice, the site office, the hard hats, etc? You can't have a building site without these items, (or so the 'elf 'n safety people would have us believe!) }hairout{
Only joking, honest! confused>
I was delivering some special building product to a site near the river in Frankfurt once; not a hard hat in sight.
The French and the Germans make up these rule for the EU, but only follow them when it suits them. The UK authorities see it as a hanging offense if you don't follow them to the letter.

I have to say this looks a great project and good luck to you.

Is that the Allotment Site, a newly created site?

So, between the hard work, please give us up-dates, seems fascinating.

Yes,its a brand new site,225 + allotments,from 25m2 to 200 m2.

I've been almost 6yrs on the waiting list for the excisting plots that have just been bulldozed to keep the birds happy on the adjoining sanctuary.

We've still very heavy frosts most mornings here so I'm concentrating on my structures before the hard digging starts!

Just another question about the Allotment.

Was it 'donated' by a Private concern or is it reclaimed Council Land?
New Allotment Sites are so far and few between and with the massive increase in interest, it's good to see such a rarity.

I believe the vast majority of Allotments are protected by law (supposed to be!) and quite hard for Authorities to release for building etc., so I'd imagine this is a long term commitment.

Ta for all the comments.

The allotments are on council land(its been a project in waiting for years now)
I'm, in Rep Ireland, north Dublin, not sure how the law works in regard here(I'm a Geordie by birth and dragged upness!)
