Recycled Solar Power!

Post by Georgee »

Hi

I have been looking at solar power to heat water for one of my many side lines I do.

I have come across an ingenius idea on the internet that I felt I should share with DTL users.

It involves the back of a fridge some tin foil a piece of glass and some air filter fish tank hose.

Here is the link with step by step instructions.... but please note I have done no tests myself with this yet.

Hope this is useful to someone :-D

Looks interesting, and I nearly have all the bits handy.
Might have to give this a whirl.

I went to an alternative energy workshop, the chap that was running it had made something similar, but had used copper piping on a backing of old loft insulation and silver foil. It really worked well, we all felt the water coming out of it. It would be good for warm water for paddling pools. You could also have a pipe going insied and use it for a shower, but would have to be careful, as the water really can get very hot! Maybe even for some kind of greenhouse heating?

Over the last few years my greenhouse offerings have been devastated by blight, and after reading around I discovered that if the air is kept moving the risk is lessened. Engage brain time!!!

I found a S/H solar panel battery charger on a car boot sale for a couple of squids and attached the crocodile clips to the leads from a large computer cooling fan and hey presto, moving air!!!!

If it doesn't cure the blight I can always set it up by the computer to counter the large amounts of hot air coming from that area.

Regards,

Nick
