Double glazing seals

Post by p.penn »

OMG - I have been complaining about how cold this house is and I just noticed a draught from the bathroom double glazed window at the hinge side. Just checked the lounge and its the same. Is there anything like WD40 that I can spray on to help?

Helen,
Don't think there's anything you can spray on that won't stick the window shut. How about a strip of self adhesive draught excluder?
That's is they're not still in warranty. If they are I'd get the company to come and sort it )t'

Helen, the hairdryer trick works as well for window seals as it does for freezer seals.. )t'

Or new gasket seals- contact a reliable window company - if there is such a thing.
These relax and wear with age.

my double glazed patio doors has that horrible hazing inside and no matter how much I clean them they always look dirty, I suppose this is due to some kind of broken seal but have no idea if this is fixable and how much it would cost, probably a shed load. :?

Nope take it to a local window firm, tell 'em the seals gone they will sort it.
On second thoughts ring 'em and ask them to come round to measure, remove and replace. My guess no more than £80 unless its huge. )t'

Hi Helen, are the windows fairly old? I ask because the older ones have a habit of hinges breaking. When that happens they don't shut properly so cannot seal. New hinges aren't too expensive and should be fairly easy to fit.

It depends on your definition of 'old'!!! I guess I had them done...well....18 years ago.

)grin2( yep, could be the hinges. If you can reach the outside of them, try pushing in on the edge of the window at the hinge side. If it moves in then you probably need new hinges.
