Re: tin can solar heatingCan't see why it wouldn't work. During the cold weather I don't know how much heat it would generate with the sun on it though but once the cans started to get warm the heated air rising would draw the colder air in the bottom.

Re: tin can solar heatingI like the idea and I am sure it will work, the only issue I have with it is it will work at its best when it is a sunny day. Therefore do you realy want a free heat when its hot outside.
I am tempted to make one to see how efective it is on a cold but sunny day. In the picture they have used fifty cans in the heater. I think cider cans will have far better thermal transfer qualities than pop cans. Oh well another trip to the shops tomorrow. Relax, I could have been a twin.
Re: tin can solar heating
Caulk, is a term used in the building trade for flexible sealing compounds, that close up gaps. You will most likely find it, around your bath or sink, to stop water running down the back. Re: tin can solar heatingJust a point of order....
Caulk is for internal use only and is NOT a silicon, it is an Acrylic filler and can be painted. Silicon is used in bathrooms and round windows but only externally as you cannot paint over it... |
