removing permanent marker from......

Post by saint-spoon »

Any ideas on how to remove permanent marker from a cream leather sofa? >coc<
I have managed to remove the same product from a two year old’s hands/face/arms/ears but can’t seem to totally remove it from the sofa. }hairout{ Have tried soap, baby wipes and nail varnish remover (which worked the best) but although it is nearly gone a faint line remains.

There was a lot of permanent marker issued in a very short time, not entirely sure how she managed to get hold of the pen but I haven’t ruled out some serious mountaineering (for a two year old) or a complicated system of ropes and pulleys which I have yet to find.

Oh dear }hairout{ Bet you wish you had bought black leather now!

Have you tried petrol? (ie lighter fluid?) Mind you, try it on an unseen bit first. Or what about dry cleaning fluid? Or asking at the dry cleaners what they would use.

Do people really take their leather sofas to the dry cleaners?

You used to be able to buy a jar of dry cleaning fluid with a sort of pad on - my dad had one for his ties. Mind you, that was yonks ago, health and safety and all that......

Good point Helen, will drag my sofa to the dry cleaners tomorrow just so that I can answer yes to Dom.

I was just thinking about those jars of dry cleaner with the dabbing thing on the top, you could get a light head if you weren't careful (or deliberately cleaned something under your nose) apparently. I used to have one twenty something years ago but cant recall seeing one recently.

Anti-static screen wipes haven't worked either and if anyone suggets gin or vodka I will refuse to even consider that as an option.

Cider, but 2-3 gallons I believe.

Even if it doesn't remove the mark, you won't be able to see it any more. )grin2(

Have just found a few suggestions online...

Saddle soap
toothpaste
hairspray
white vinegar
glycerine based face wash

Someone else suggested going over the marker pen with a dry wipe marker and then wiping it off - I know this works when the kids at school use normal marker pens on the dry wipe boards but I'd certainly test it somewhere inconspicuous first )t'

Methylated spirit may be effective, it works wonders on adhesives.

Got any spray sun screen?..not cream one....if so spray that on and it should take it off (I know someone else who did this and it worked)...worth a try. Failing that there's that TouvitForte stain remover which is supposed to remove every stain known to man ...never tried it though so couldn't actually vouch for it...anyone else got any experience with it may be able to advise.

Go find your independent cleaning supplier, the place where all the pro cleaners go, they have all sorts of stain removers.
