Linbide scraper

Post by foghornleghorn2 »

Ever wondered how the decorator gets a better finish than you can, its the bits of kit that he/she uses that make the difference.

I have one of these scrapers

I cannot stress how good it is, the blades are expensive (for a good reason) but if you have a bit of painting to do well worth it. Scraper and blades would last the average joe a lifetime. I have been painting square stair spindles recently and no matter how careful you are there are always some "build up" lines on the edges, this scraper takes them off like a plane (woodworking not flying) sadly very few will buy but any that do will be truly amazed.

No, I don't have shares in the company....

Many years ago I used a similar type of scraper. It was called Skarsten. I do not know if they are still available.

Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

Handy gadget, I fancy one.

I think I have a skarsten scraper, is it a red wooden-handled thing with toothed blade on one side & a plain one on the other? No idea where it came from, might've been my grandad's, but I use it a lot for preparing old paintwork for recoat.

I was taught how to use a cabinet scraper as an apprentice, cheap and you just re sharpen them as you go along.

Now you can get a good finish with one of them.

The Linbide has tungsten carbide blades making it extremely durable

Taff, that indeed is a very good scraper, but that is a (how can I explain this ?) a pushing sort of scraper that will strip wallpaper etc.

The Linbide you pull/draw and it takes off uneven edges.
