cable ties

Post by barkingmad »

Good morning from a very chilly Northants.
My question is.....
After erecting my new run and using mesh which had to be overlapped in placed we used my cable ties to hold the 2 pieces together. Now the question is will the ties rot and if so how long have I got to replace them with something more perminant.

No they will not rot (Not within the next 500 years anyway)
They can become worn if movement is involved but if they are a not the cheaper ones that can become brittle they will not deteriorate.

I got them from Tesco so maybe not the best make. But as least I have a few weeks to get some money together to find something more perminant.
My brother insisted I changed them as he built the run. But as I used the ties in the garden anyway for supporting my bamboo canes we were arguing as to whether they were weather proof so to speak.

Thank you for your help.

In my experience frost makes them brittle. Would garden wire be a better option?

They can get brittle over time but will surly last till you sort something else out in my 4x4 hobby they get used to hold springs in place and last a long time so you should be ok

I'd use some of the trimming from the fence or galvanised wire..

In the past I've just cut the fence so I can wrap one around the other so no additional fixings are needed.

A standard method is to have it join on a wooden beam so staples can be used.
