Gable end - meshed or closed?Gable end - meshed or closed?Hi Folks,
I'm trying to make a decision about how to finish the gable of the run attached to my hens' coop. I'm thinking of meshed, like the sides, to let in extra light and warmth for when that end is pointing south, as it is now, or closed (tongue and grooved, or just plywood) to prevent rain getting in when it's coming in at an angle. Of course I could go with meshed and make a removable panel to seal it if the rain is really bad. Have I just answered my own question? Thanks for reading. Jonathan Re: Gable end - meshed or closed?I think you have! You could actually make a whole detachable end panel for when it is teaming down.
It is looking very nice though - well done! Helen xx

The meshed panels are set in from the face of the structural members of the run by 12mm and there is a horizontal structural member dividing the gable end, so either I design an all-in-one rain shield that is surface mounted on the run's frame, or separate ones for the gable and the square end below it that could each fit into the rebate created by its meshed panel. Jonathan Re: Gable end - meshed or closed?Or the other option would be to use a clear tarp that you can roll up or down depending on the weather.

Re: Gable end - meshed or closed? That would work, too; thanks, Al.

Go for the mesh and what AL suggests No problem can withstand the power of continuous thought.
Re: Gable end - meshed or closed?I think the cardboard and parcel tape looks rather fetching.

Re: Gable end - meshed or closed? Is that grass in the run??

Not for long Some days you're the pigeon, some days you're the statue.

Well, they have only been in it since Tuesday but it's already starting to look a bit ropey! |
