the WRONG pallet?
the WRONG pallet?Is there a knack to taking a pallet apart?? The last one I tried to dismantle seemed to have a " self distruct" mode !
It was put together with nails that had ridges on them acting like "barbs" which meant that the nail didnt budge and the wood just split away from it. In the end I gave up and had to get someone to dump it . what a waste! What was I doing wrong?
Re: the WRONG pallet?There is a special tool for dismantling pallets but Al found an old garden fork with a tine missing in the middle worked well. Fork over the bar the slats are nailed to, the tines under the slat and lever up and the nails came out.
Hope that's some help. I will try and find the post. Dom Ali Woks My World
Re: the WRONG pallet?Ah. The one I found was his prototype post in the admin area which is why you can't see it. I'm sure he posted it on main forum so will have another look

Re: the WRONG pallet?If he agrees, perhaps you could do a copy and paste? If you dont find it on the main forum, that is.

Re: the WRONG pallet?Just to clear things up, we have a hidden category where we sometimes compose messages before we post them.
Examples being a Competition, the Party threads etc. We store them there and click them on when necessary. Dom obviously found it down there rather than up here, it wasn't removed, just a copy. Richard New Member? Get more from the Forum and join in 'Members Chat' - you're very welcome
Re: the WRONG pallet?Having seen a couple of photos showing wooden seats on DTL, I think I would like to have a go at this sometime in the future.
That's a really helpful technique, Al. http://www.freshstartforhens.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: the WRONG pallet?Even with a pallet splitting tool the wood will splinter and split sometimes. I was told (on good authority) it helps if the pallets are a bit damp!
I still sometimes resort to prising them apart a bit and hacksawing the nails off if it's good timber! I'd like to live as a poor man with lots of money.
