Oak sleepers for the garden.

Post by silverback »

Spent today helping our son Stephen putting down some oak sleepers in his garden.
He wants to seperate the lawn form the patio, so we put the sleepers down, we still have to lay the patio slabs, which will be going on the concrete, and the gap between sleepers and the lawn, will be filled with topsoil and lawn seed.
We treated the sleepers with preservative, and drilled and joined them together using 20mm wooden dowls, will be rounding off the edges tomorrow with a router!..

Thanks Steve, they went a lovely colour and brought the grain out when we put the preservative on,
but they will go light again, I did say to Stephen we could try treating them with some linseed oil, but
not sure if this would do the trick at keeping the colour! :? ..

Oil will keep the colour, but would need reapplying frequently, every two to three months.

Worth it I think, the grain looks great!
