fairy lights and kitchen cupboards

Im trying to put some fairy lights under the cabinets above the work tops but i cant for my life seem to get them up there, i tried drawing pins but they wont go in, ive tried a nail and a hammer but that wont go in, any ideas?

I tried everything and couldn't, not very helpful am I , in the end I put them along the top!!
