Garden room - toilet waste!

Post by brook cottage »

Hi, I have been browser of this forum for a long time and I am now wondering if anyone would have any advice for me. I have just had planning permission granted for a garden room, which will be used as an office and ancillary accommodation. We have already come across the first hurdle, a plumber has told us that in order to have a toilet, we would need to dig a trench through our neighbours garden to get to the mains soil pipe. This is out of the question so I am hoping there will be another solution. Any advice would be gratefully received.

I guess a cesspit/septic tank would work too - I have one here.

I suppose a compost loo in the garden would be out of the question? :?

I'd look at an earth closet or compost loo, lots of benefits if you can get your head round them!

Is it a plumber you have used before? If not then I would get a second opinion, surely the thing would be to dig up your garden to connect to your mains?

Not that I know anything about plumbing of course

It not just a matter of connecting up to your own mains Mrs B, you have to make sure that the fall of the new pipe can be accomodated, curently between 18mm and 90mm per metre of soil pipe for the new pipe to work properly.

Depending how far the new toilet is from Brook Cotteges own mains that may not have been possible But i,m still very impressed with you girls drain knowledge. )t'
